Cel puţin 35 de oameni şi-au pierdut viaţa şi câteva sute au fost răniţi luni de explozia unei autocisterne şi de incendiul declanşat de deflagraţie în statul Nasarawa din nordul Nigeriei, au anunţat autorităţile, potrivit agerpres.

Potrivit Agenţiei de Stat pentru Gestionarea Urgenţelor (SEMA) citată de Reuters, accidentul s-a produs la o benzinărie pe şoseaua care leagă capitala Abuja de nordul şi sudul ţării. Un martor a relatat că explozia s-a produs la punctul de descărcare a carburantului. Directorul SEMA a precizat că majoritatea victimelor au murit deoarece au fugit către locul accidentului, ca să vadă ce se întâmplă.

Accidentele rutiere sunt frecvente în Nigeria, unde starea drumurilor este proastă, iar standardele de siguranţă sunt scăzute, arată Reuters. În iunie, în metropola comercială Lagos, au murit cel puţin nouă oameni după ce o cisternă a luat foc, iar incendiul s-a extins la alte 53 de autovehicule.
